BENEFITS

Benefits of Presto Tape's Carpet Protection Film
Carpet Protection Film

Minimized Downtime

Damaged carpets often require areas to be cordoned off for cleaning or repair, leading to lost productivity or inconvenience for clients. Protection film allows work to continue with minimal disruption

Reduced Cleanup Costs

The film catches dust, debris, and spills, making final cleanup faster and less labor-intensive, saving on cleaning crew hours and specialized cleaning supplies.

Client Satisfaction

For contractors, movers, or maintenance companies working in client spaces, protecting their carpets demonstrates professionalism, care, and attention to detail. This builds trust and leads to positive client feedback, repeat business, and referrals.

PROCESS USE

Carpet Protection Film is designed to safeguard carpeted surfaces during construction, renovations, painting, moving, and high-traffic events. It provides a temporary barrier that resists dirt, spills, stains, and damage caused by foot traffic, tools, or debris. The film adheres securely to most carpets without leaving residue and helps maintain a clean, professional appearance throughout the project duration.

The film can be used for specific uses during production, including:

Construction & Renovations

Protects carpets from dust, paint, dirt, and debris during remodeling, repairs, or interior finishing. The film helps contractors and homeowners maintain carpet integrity while work is performed in surrounding areas.

Moving

Ideal for temporary floor protection during moving or storage. It prevents soiling or tearing from heavy foot traffic, furniture movement, or equipment, ensuring carpets remain in like-new condition.

Events & Open Houses

Keeps carpets looking fresh during open houses, trade shows, and special events. The film provides a durable, non-slip surface that protects from damage before, during, and after the event, shielding from spills and high visitor traffic and maintaining a clean appearance.

APPLICATION USE

The film is suitable for a range of applications.

Nylon

This is one of the most common synthetic carpet fibers and commonly used in high-traffic areas.

Polyester

Polyester carpets are soft and luxurious. Protection film adheres well to polyester fibers, safeguarding them from spills and dirt.

Olefin

Olefin carpets are very durable and frequently used in commercial settings or basements.

Triexta

A newer, more premium, synthetic fiber, Triexta, is known for being sustainable and soft.

Acrylic

While less common than nylon or polyester, acrylic carpets mimic the look and feel of wool.

HOW TO APPLY & REMOVE PROTECTIVE FILM

Applying the Film

It’s important to note that carpet protection film is reverse-wound. The film is specifically designed for use with carpets to make installation easier. The film can be applied either kicked out with by foot or applied with a roller applicator.
1. Prepare the Film: Unpeel the edge of the roll and apply the sticky side down
2. Start at One End of the Room: Begin applying the film along one wall or edge of the room by carpet roller or by kicking it out. This helps ensure straight, even application.
3. Be Methodical: Unroll a small section (1-2 feet) of the film at a time.
4. Position and Smooth: Press the exposed adhesive side firmly onto the carpet and smooth the film using the carpet roller or by hand using a clean cloth. Work out any air bubbles or wrinkles as you go to ensure full contact and prevent trip hazards.
5. Overlap Edges: If covering a large area requiring multiple rolls, slightly overlap the edges of each new strip by about 1-2 inches. This creates a secure seam and prevents gaps. Ensure the overlap is smooth and flat.
6. Cut to Fit: Once you reach the end of the area or a wall, use a utility knife or sharp scissors to cut the film to size carefully. Ensure clean, straight cuts. Be mindful of the carpet beneath when cutting with a knife. Cut around doorways, columns, or other permanent fixtures as needed.
7. Secure Edges: For use in very high traffic areas or for the maximum installation time to prevent edge lifting, you can use painter’s tape or a similar low-residue tape to secure the perimeter edges of the film to the baseboards or floor. Ensure the tape is also compatible with the surface it’s adhering to.

Removing the Film

1. Prep Your Supplies: A utility knife or plastic edge tool to lift corners and a garbage bag for disposal. Keep a vacuum or lint roller on hand for finishing touches.
2. Lift an Edge: Identify a corner or seam where the film ends or lifts easily. Gently loosen a small area first and lift the film.
3. Peel with Patience: Slowly pull the film back at a low angle, keeping close to the carpet surface. Avoid pulling too quickly or aggressively to prevent dirt and debris from scattering into the carpet. A smooth, steady removal is ideal. As the film is peeled up, roll it back onto itself to trap all dirt and grime.
4. Refresh the Carpet: Vacuum thoroughly to remove loose debris or fibers. A carpet brush or roller can help restore pile texture and ensure the carpet is clean.
