Product Details
Automotive carpet protection film is a temporary, self-adhesive film that keeps vehicle carpets clean from the factory to the customer’s driveway. The clear 4 mil film is printed in black with DEALER MUST REMOVE PROTECTIVE COVER, so the cover is easy to spot and gets pulled before delivery or return to the customer. Perforations every 21″ let installers tear clean, consistent sheets for each footwell without a knife, and the film removes cleanly at the end of its use window of up to 30 days.

BENEFITS
Benefits of Presto Tape's Automotive Carpet Protection Film

Delivery-Ready Interiors
Vehicles pass through transport, lot staff, test drives, and service before they reach a buyer. Protection film keeps carpets free of mud, salt, and grease, so every vehicle is delivered with a showroom-clean interior.
A Reminder Built Into the Film
The black DEALER MUST REMOVE PROTECTIVE COVER print is visible from the open door. Staff know the cover belongs on the floor until delivery, and no customer drives off with it still in place.
Faster, Consistent Installs
Perforations every 21" let installers tear uniform sheets by hand, with no measuring or cutting. Each vehicle gets the same coverage in less time, and less film is wasted.
PROCESS USE
Automotive Carpet Protection Film protects vehicle carpets from the time a vehicle arrives on the lot until it is delivered to the customer. It provides a temporary barrier against dirt, spills, and wear from foot traffic, and its printed message makes sure the cover is removed before handoff.
The film can be used for specific uses, including:
New Vehicle Prep and Inventory
Protects floor carpets on new inventory as vehicles are unloaded, inspected, prepped, and parked on the lot. Carpets stay clean through lot moves and walkarounds.
Test Drives and Showroom Traffic
Shields footwells from shoes tracking in dirt, gravel, rain, and snow during test drives and showroom visits, without detracting from the vehicle’s appearance.
Service, Detailing, and Reconditioning
Keeps carpets clean while technicians and detailers work in and out of a vehicle, and protects freshly cleaned carpets on reconditioned used inventory until sale.
APPLICATION USE
The film is suitable for a range of applications.
Nylon
The most widely used automotive carpet fiber, valued for its durability in high-wear footwells.
Polyester
A common, cost-effective automotive carpet fiber. Protection film adheres well to polyester, guarding it from spills and dirt.
Polypropylene (Olefin)
A durable, moisture-resistant fiber used in many vehicle floor carpets and cargo areas.
HOW TO APPLY & REMOVE PROTECTIVE FILM
Applying the Film
It’s important to note that automotive carpet protection film is self-wound, not reverse-wound. The adhesive faces the inside of the roll, so sheets are pulled from the roll and placed by hand rather than rolled out across the floor. The 21″ perforations make each sheet easy to tear off and place.
1. Prepare the Footwell: Remove floor mats and vacuum the carpet so it is clean and dry before applying the film.
2. Pull and Tear a Sheet: Unwind the film to the next perforation and tear along the perforation for a clean 21″ sheet.
3. Position the Sheet: Place the sheet adhesive side down with the DEALER MUST REMOVE PROTECTIVE COVER print facing up, where it can be read from the open door.
4. Smooth the Film: Press the film firmly onto the carpet by hand, working out wrinkles and air pockets so the edges lie flat and do not catch under pedals or feet.
5. Overlap for Larger Areas: For larger footwells or cargo areas, add another sheet and overlap the edges by 1 to 2 inches for full coverage.
6. Keep the Pedals Clear: Make sure no film sits on or under the pedals, where it could interfere with their operation.
Removing the Film
The film should be removed by the dealer before the vehicle is delivered to the customer, and within 30 days of application.
1. Lift an Edge: Start at a corner or seam and gently lift the film.
2. Peel Slowly: Pull the film back at a low angle, keeping it close to the carpet. Roll it onto itself as you go to trap dirt and debris.
3. Finish the Carpet: Vacuum and brush the carpet to restore the pile, then reinstall the floor mats.
